We, the parents, teachers, students and ‘ohana of Kamehameha Schools Maui proudly introduce our 20th annual Hoʻolauleʻa!
This year we celebrate all we as haumāna, as ‘ohana, as a kula, and as a kaiāulu have overcome. Like the ʻaʻaliʻi, we are rooted. We dig deep, to our kaiāulu, to Maui Nui. We are resilient. We have faced tragedy and loss, and yet we overcome, we kuʻupau. No gale wind can knock us down. Yet, we remain responsive. We continue Pauahi’s legacy by answering her call, to continue to be good and industrious men and women, and to continue to share her deep love with our people, by serving, by honoring, by responding to our call as poʻe Hawai’i. We have so much to celebrate and be thankful for! He ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Mai Kākou! We are the wind withstanding ʻaʻaliʻi (no force will knock us down). |
This year, Kamehameha Schools Maui’s class of 2027 has the privilege of hosting the 20th annual Hoʻolauleʻa on March 1, 2025.
The manaʻo behind this year’s design is inspired from the ʻAʻaliʻi plant which is known for its strength and durability to heavy winds. The ʻŌlelo Noʻeau, “He ‘aʻaliʻi kū makani mai au; ʻaʻohe makani nana e kulaʻi”, translates to, “I am a wind resistant ‘aʻaliʻi; no gale can blow me over”. It symbolizes the strength and resilience of our people who will overcome in the face of obstacles. The class of 2027 was blessed to be given the name Papa ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani during the COVID pandemic. At this time, the fifth grade returnees and new invitees were preparing to enter middle school facing unknown challenges. According to DLNR, “ ʻA’ali’i is indigenous to Hawaiʻi and is one of the few native Hawaiian plants that can endure fires.” With all that the kaiāulu has gone through from the tragic Lāhainā fires on August 8, 2023. The manaʻo behind this mea kanu encourages us that no matter what we are faced with, we will always stand strong and we will never get knocked down. We will remain steadfast and resilient. Ka papa ʻaʻaliʻi kū makani is proud to reveal our logo design at this year’s Hoʻolauleʻa. |

Hoʻolauleʻa is the sole fundraiser for the year that supports student enrichment programs, educational activities, and ʻAʻapueo Scholarships for Kamehameha Schools Maui graduates and alumni. So once again our KS ʻohana will join hands to create an enjoyable event offering 'ono food, beautiful entertainment, shopping opportunities with local vendors, silent auction, and apparel sales. We look forward to sharing this event with you, our valued partners, neighbors, community leaders, friends, and ʻohana. |
